February is drier than January and noticeably warmer by the end of the month, when some afternoons reach the low 20s. Mornings and evenings are still cool, so you need a jacket after dark. Sunny lunchtimes are warm enough for terraces in sheltered squares.

Carnival in Cádiz
Cádiz, about 1 hour 45 minutes from Seville by train, holds the most famous Carnival in Spain. Its heart is not parades but songs: groups called chirigotas and comparsas sing witty, satirical songs about politics and daily life, first in a contest at the Gran Teatro Falla and then in the streets of the old town, where everyone is in costume.

Andalusia Day (28 February)
The regional holiday, Día de Andalucía, fills balconies with the green and white flag. Shops close, and some monuments keep holiday hours. In 2027, 28 February is a Sunday, so check whether the holiday moves to Monday 1 March.
Lent begins
With Ash Wednesday on 10 February 2027, Seville starts to prepare for Semana Santa, which falls early in 2027 (21–28 March). Bakeries start selling torrijas, and on some evenings you may meet teams of costaleros rehearsing in the streets, carrying an empty float frame to the orders of their foreman. It is a quiet foretaste of Holy Week.
Festival de Jerez

Crowds and hotel prices
February is low season. The Alcázar, the cathedral and the Setas are at their quietest, and you can often book the Alcázar a day ahead.
