The short answer

The Zurich Maratón de Sevilla, the Seville Marathon, is on Sunday 21 February 2027, with the start at 08:30. It is one of the fastest marathons in Europe: flat, at sea level and mostly sheltered from the wind, through the historic centre.

  • Date: Sunday 21 February 2027, 08:30 start
  • Start: Avenida de María Luisa, at the Casino de la Exposición. Finish: Paseo de las Delicias, at the Glorieta de Buenos Aires
  • Limit: 20,000 bibs. The 2027 bibs had sold out by October 2026, so the realistic route is the waiting list, a travel package or a charity bib
  • Bibs and expo: Friday 19 and Saturday 20 February, 10:00-20:00, at FIBES (not on race day)
  • Weather: usually cool and sunny, about 18 °C by day in the city in February, colder at the 08:30 start

The course

The race starts in the María Luisa area, near the Plaza de España, and finishes on the Paseo de las Delicias by the river. In between it takes in some of the best-known places in the city: Plaza de España, the Torre del Oro, the Giralda, María Luisa Park and the Maestranza bullring, with crossings of the Puente de San Telmo and the Puente de la Barqueta.

The organisers call it the flattest course in Europe. Seville sits near sea level, February air is cool and the streets give some shelter from the wind. The 2026 edition made small changes to cut turns and slopes. Aid stations start at about 4.6 km and continue to about 40 km, and pacers cover target times from 2:45 to 5:00.

The time limit is six hours from the start of the last wave, with the finish line closing at 15:00. Runners start in corrals and waves by their certified times.

Why it is fast

  • Almost no climbing: the city is flat and the route has few turns.
  • Cool February weather, with little wind in the sheltered streets.
  • A well-organised, large field with pacers. The 2026 men’s race ended in a photo finish in about 2:03:58, and the women’s winner, Alisa Vainio of Finland, set a Finnish record of 2:20:39.

How to enter

Entry is first come, first served, with no lottery and no qualifying time. Everything goes through the official site, zurichmaratonsevilla.es.

Step 2027 edition
Registration opened 9 April 2026
First window 9-12 April for 2026 runners; then 2026 waiting-list runners; then everyone else
Deadline 15 February 2027, or earlier if all 20,000 bibs go
General price about €82 (2026: about €71 plus a €5 day licence for unlicensed runners)
Seville province residents about €21 to €63, rising through the registration period (certificate needed)
Waiting list about €97, opening once the bibs sell out

The 2026 edition sold out in about a month, and the 2027 bibs had also sold out by October 2026, so for the next editions we’d plan around the moment registration opens (April). Spain also asks for a one-day licence from the athletics federation for runners without one, added to the fee at checkout.

Transfers and refunds

The bib is personal and non-transferable, and names cannot be changed. There is no refund after registration unless you bought the optional cancellation guarantee (about €15 for 2027, valid until mid-January 2027). Cancelled bibs go to the waiting list.

Other ways in

  • Waiting list: opens when the race sells out and is fed by cancellations.
  • Travel packages: the official site lists accommodation packages, and an official travel partner sells packages that include a bib.
  • Charity marathon: the official page said “Coming soon” in October 2026. Check it for 2027.

Other races of the weekend

The weekend also includes a 5K Breakfast Run and children’s races, with separate registration. The 5K was still open when the marathon had sold out. Dates and prices for 2027 are still to be confirmed.

Bib pick-up and the Expo

Bibs and runner bags are collected only at the Marathon Expo at FIBES (Avenida Alcalde Luis Uruñuela 1, in the Palacio de Congresos area) on Friday 19 and Saturday 20 February 2027, from 10:00 to 20:00. Bring your registration receipt and your ID. Nobody hands out bibs on race day. A friend can collect yours with a copy of your ID, your receipt and a signed authorisation. FIBES is served by buses 27 and B4 and by the C4 commuter train (Palacio de Congresos stop).

Weather in February

February in Seville averages about 18 °C by day and 7 °C at night, with about five rainy days (see Seville in February). At 08:30 expect a chilly start, then a bright, mild morning. We’d wear layers you can leave in the bag drop. A wet day is possible, so we’d pack a thin waterproof.

Where to stay

The start and finish are both on the south side of the centre, along the park and the river. The most practical areas are the Arenal and Santa Cruz (walkable to the Paseo de las Delicias), the streets near María Luisa Park and Plaza de España, and the centre around the Cathedral. We recommend booking as soon as you have your bib: marathon weekend is also a mini-break for thousands of foreign runners, and prices are higher than in a normal February.

For more areas and hotels see where to stay in Seville.

Getting there and around on race day

From the airport, the EA bus and a taxi are the main options (see the airport transfer guide). We suggest arranging the transfer so that you arrive at least on Thursday or Friday, before the expo opens. We’d plan to walk to the start from your hotel: streets around the route close on the morning of the race, and buses and taxis are diverted. Check the organiser’s traffic notes the week before. The Seville getting around guide covers the metro, buses and taxis.

If you are coming from elsewhere in Spain, trains reach Santa Justa station from Madrid and Málaga.

After the race

We recommend giving yourself at least one more day. Walk it off in Plaza de España, visit the Cathedral and Giralda and the Real Alcázar (low season means shorter queues) and eat well: see where to eat in Seville, or take a tapas tour. We’d finish with flamenco in the evening. Our things to do in Seville guide lists more ideas.

The 2026 edition in numbers

About 17,000 runners took part in 2026, 8,954 of them foreign, and the race was shown on 330 TV channels. See Seville tourism statistics for the figures and sources. For the other big events, see the Feria de Abril and Semana Santa.
