Yes: Córdoba is the best day trip from Seville. High-speed trains take about 45 minutes, and the city has one of the most extraordinary buildings in the world, the Mezquita-Catedral, a great mosque with a Renaissance cathedral built in its centre. One day is enough for the highlights; stay a night if you want to see the old town quietly in the evening.

Book trains in advance for the cheapest fares, especially at weekends and in May. Compare operators and times on Omio or on the operators’ websites.

One-day plan
- 8:00: early train from Santa Justa. Arrive around 8:45.
- Mezquita-Catedral. Allow 1.5 hours. Climb the bell tower if you have booked a slot.
- The Judería (Jewish quarter): the Calleja de las Flores, the synagogue and the Casa de Sefarad.
- Lunch: salmorejo and flamenquín, both from Córdoba.
- Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos: the palace and its terraced gardens with pools.
- Roman bridge and the Calahorra tower at golden hour, looking back at the Mezquita.
- Evening train back to Seville.
In May, add the patios: during the Fiesta de los Patios (usually the first two weeks of May), residents open their flower-filled courtyards to visitors.
